David Michael Burrow
Descendent of the Mayflower
David Burrow's brother Paul has done genealogical research tracing many parts of the family back well over a hundred years. At least one branch of that family tree goes back 400 years and includes Pilgrims such as Governor William Bradford and the "founders of a nation"--John Alden and Priscilla Mullins (from whom more than three million Americans descend).
A very important family story tells of when the Daughters of the American Revolution refused to let the opera diva Marian Anderson sing at their facilities because of her race. David Burrow's grandmother, Edna May Pratt Miller Fishel, traced her ancestry through many of the people shown here to prove that she could qualify for DAR membership. She presented her credentials to the DAR and then refused their invitation to join, saying that any organization that would not let a black woman sing was not good enough for her to join.
